About the Gypsy Folk Ensemble

The Gypsy Folk Ensemble is a world dance performing company featuring the ethnic and folk dances of various cultures. GYPSY, based in Los Angeles, California, was formed in 1978 to preserve, perform and teach traditional folk dances from countries around the world. See this article for further details on our history.

One of our primary goals has been to use dance to foster awareness and appreciation of other cultures and peoples. Over the years, the company has built a solid reputation for professionalism and excellence.

GYPSY has been presenting school assemblies, student workshops, and Professional Development sessions for schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District and other cities in California and Arizona for over 25 years.

The company has also reached out to those unable to attend public performances with a special series for senior citizens in retirement and care facilities and children in hospitals.

GYPSY has performed thousands of shows in festivals, schools, libraries, businesses and private parties, and has appeared on television and in feature films.

The company was privileged to be invited to the 2009 and 2014 Estonian Dance Festival held in Tallinn, Estonia. See our Features section for details on our participation in the 2009 and 2014 festivals.

GYPSY is also involved in the teaching of ethnic dance to children and adults and maintains its own dance studio, the Gypsy Camp Ethnic Arts Center, which is used for dance classes and is available for rental.

The Gypsy Folk Ensemble can meet your entertainment needs, big or small.

Gypsy has been a fixture in dance entertainment and education in Los Angeles and Southern California for more than 25 years. We perform the exciting and exuberant folk dances of Europe, America, the Middle East and Polynesia. The artists are all professional dancers with wide experience in stage, educational, business, and party settings.
